In cooperation with the Europäische FilmPhilharmonie – EFP, Conductor Frank Strobel, a pioneer of the film-in-concert genre, leads the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra through the music behind some of cinema's most unforgettable moments, narrated by Manfred Callsen. From the sweeping desert vistas of Lawrence of Arabia and the thundering chariot race in Ben-Hur, to the time-travelling adventure of Back to the Future, and the bittersweet romance of La La Land. This is a night of music you already know and love, brought to life live.

Presented as part of the Qatar-Canada Year of Culture, this concert brings the sound of Canada to Doha under conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe, winner of First Prize at the prestigious Prague Spring International Conducting Competition. The programme showcases four Canadian composers rarely heard in this part of the world; Morawetz's vibrant Carnival Overture, Mercure's colourful Kaleidoscope, and Hétu's evocative On the Banks of the Saint-Maurice River, followed after the interval by Morawetz's ambitious Symphony No. 2. Don’t miss the chance to discover a musical tradition as vast and varied as Canada itself.

Conductor Felix Mildenberger (winner of the Donatella Flick London Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition and former assistant to Sir Simon Rattle), leads the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme built around its own stars. Four of the orchestra's principal wind players step into the spotlight for Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, oboist Germán Díaz Blanco, clarinettist Rony Moser, bassoonist Yoshiko Koyama, and horn player Peter Davida, in a joyful conversation between four solo voices and the orchestra. The evening opens with Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, inspired by the crashing waves of a Scottish sea cave, and closes with his Symphony No. 1, written when the composer was just fifteen.
