Fri 20 Nov

Conductor Felix Mildenberger (winner of the Donatella Flick London Symphony Orchestra Conducting Competition and former assistant to Sir Simon Rattle), leads the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme built around its own stars. Four of the orchestra's principal wind players step into the spotlight for Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, oboist Germán Díaz Blanco, clarinettist Rony Moser, bassoonist Yoshiko Koyama, and horn player Peter Davida, in a joyful conversation between four solo voices and the orchestra. The evening opens with Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, inspired by the crashing waves of a Scottish sea cave, and closes with his Symphony No. 1, written when the composer was just fifteen.
