Miss Teaze Right before Hiphop began bubbling up into the swankier clubs in the Metro Manila region, it was flourishing in a tight-knit community in the outskirts of downtown. One of the fixtures of this scene, and undeniably, its most iconic product, came in the form of the Philippines’ first female Hip Hop and R&B DJ- Althea Arvisu, aka Teaze (originally Baby Teaze). She was 17 years old. As the scene progressed, so did Teaze, transforming from dancer to bonafide DJ, spectator to dictator, and Baguio city native to full blown Manila nightlife veteran. With a genuine affection for beats, and music practically embedded in her genes, DJ Teaze worked her way up from small-time bar DJ to national success. She quickly gained popularity and has been playing for some of the country’s biggest events and wildest parties. The appreciation of the culture, her passion for music, and the high she got from playing is what turned this firestarter into an overnight phenomenon. These days, over a decade in the industry, Teaze is currently exploring Asia, bringing her music to an even bigger audience, and adding International DJ to her list of achievements.
