More info
Phoenix Entertainment, a new and upcoming Qatari owned company providing live entertainment is bringing to Qatar, for the first time, The renowned “Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club” for a live show.

After, 16 years thrilling audiences around the world, the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club® is set to bid ‘Adios’ with a farewell world tour.

The group, which has been touring the globe in different forms, guises and combinations since 1997, will take to the road one final time this year with a series of concerts and related cultural events that will celebrate the Orquesta’s storied journey as ambassadors for Cuban music.

The recording, named “Buena Vista Social Club“ after the Havana institution, became an international success, and the ensemble was encouraged to perform with a full ine-up in Amsterdam in April 1998. That show and another one in New York’s Carnegie Hall were captured on film by German director Wim Wenders on film for a documentary that included interviews with the musicians conducted in Havana Finally this documentary was released for the cinema, also named “Buena Vista Social Club“, in June 1999 to critical acclaim, receiving an Academy Award nomination for “Best Documentary” feature and winning numerous accolades including “Best Documentary” at the European Film Awards.

The "Buena Vista Social Club" name became an umbrella term to describe these
performances and releases, and has been likened to a brand label that encapsulates Cuba's "musical golden age" between the 1930s and 1950s.

Omara Portuondo began her career as a dancer at the famous Tropicana cabaret when she was still a teenager. In addition to dancing alongside her sister Haydee, the two girls also sang with a group called Los Loquibambla, a combo that specialized in a Cubanized version of the Bossa Nova with touches of American jazz.

Omara and Haydee joined by Elena Burke and Moraima Secada became the Quarteto Las d’Aida, directed by pianist Aida Diestro.
Omara toured with the group for 15 years before recording her first solo album, Magia Negra, in 1959.

She stayed with the quartet for several more years before launching her solo career in 1967. OMARA also sung with Cuba’s high-profile Orchestra Aragón, with which she recorded several albums and toured all over the world through the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Propelled by her success with Buena Vista, Omara entered the 21st century as an international sensation, with tours and festival dates that crisscrossed the globe. Her awards and accolades in that time have been numerous, and most recently include a Latin Grammy for her solo album, Gracias. In Spring 20211, alongside the pianist "Chucho Valdes", they released a new album, "Omara & Chucho" which has been critically acclaimed.

Nowadays, "Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club" is touring the world as the original heritage formation. In 2015 they have embarked on their very last tour named “ADIOS” which is bringing them to Doha as their first ever appearance in Qatar at the Sheraton Grand Doha on March 25, 2016.
